Only band and string students need to audition for placement, however all parents, including parents of vocal students, should attend orientation. Parents should attend orientation time corresponding to their child’s ages.

Instrumental students should come prepared with their own solo selection for auditions.
- We want you to pick the audition piece (and pick just one piece) that best demonstrates your skill on your instrument. If some notes are too high for you then play them an octave lower. Similarly, if notes are too low for you, then play them an octave higher. Our expectation is that you do the best that you can....we certainly are not expecting perfection, so please don’t stress out over the tryout. Play as much as you are capable of and don’t worry about the rest. If the etudes seem too difficult and you prefer playing a piece from your band folder or private lesson folder, then go ahead. It should not be a pop or show tune, rather more classical in nature. You should review the scales that you worked on in your school band class.
